Case Study: Biofilm Control Strategies In Beverage And Dairy Processing Bacterial biofilms cause a number of serious problems for industrial fluid processing operations. Mechanical blockages, impedance of heat transfer processes and biofilm induced corrosion result in billions of dollars of losses each year. Product spoilage and possible risk to public health are also consequences of biofilm-mediated contamination. This brief article will review aspects of biofilm control strategies for Clean-in-Place (CIP) in the beverage and dairy industries and introduce a promising disinfectant via case studies. By Susan B. Article: Finished Goods Warehouses Attached To Large Manufacturing Centers Warehouses attached to manufacturing plants tend to have fewer SKU’s (200 to 500) and lots of palletized products per sku (1500 pallets for 1 sku). Such pallets are stored directly on the floor. This method is called ‘bulk storage’ in the USA and ‘block stack storage” in UK and Europe. By Karma Logistics Inc 08/18/2010 1.02 MB

Application Note: Inductive Conductivity - CIP-Concentration Control In The Makeup System The food & beverage industry has stringent requirements regarding the cleanliness of all equipment in contact with food products. Technically these requirements are fulfilled by means of a CIP-system. CIP stands for Clean-In-Place. That means that the reactors, pipes, and so on are cleaned in place, and are not disassembled and cleaned elsewhere. The latter might be necessary for some equipment, such as filters for example. CIP is preferable whenever it is possible, because it allows a much higher degree of automation. By Mettler-Toledo AG, Process Analytical, Inc. 07/12/2010 115.6 KB
Application Note: Glass Bottle Bent Neck Inspection Vision System Safeguards Filling And Capping Equipment Defective bottles often cause damage to expensive filling and capping equipment and result in both filling line downtime for repairs as well as the cost and delay of ordering replacement parts. Application Note: Conductivity For Media Separation Control In Beer Filler Machines In some processes in the Food & Beverage industry conductivity is measured to control the separation of two liquids with different conductivity values. One example is the measurement of conductivity of beer and water in the beer filler machine. By Mettler-Toledo AG, Process Analytical, Inc. 07/12/2010 189.5 KB
Application Note: pH Measurement In Meat Using A Puncture Electrode The pH of living muscle lies at 7.2 pH. After slaughter, biochemical breakdown processes take place in the meat. The energy carrier in muscle (glycogen) is broken down into lactic acid by various enzymes (glycolysis) which causes a drop in the pH of the meat. Application Note: pH Measurement In Fresh Milk By Mettler-Toledo AG, Process Analytical, Inc. Consequences of fractured glass pH electrode pose a much more serious threat in food processing than in other industries. No matter how small, glass fragments can bring your process to a stop. 07/11/2010 97.6 KB
